Structural and civil engineering for homes and developments in Celbridge, on the Liffey in north Kildare, from our office in Newbridge.
Celbridge is on the Liffey in the north of the county, about half an hour from the office in Newbridge. The engineer who visits is the one who designs the job and signs for it.
We know the edge of the town from the other side of the boundary: at Adamstown, a few minutes away in South Dublin, we designed the precast frame of an apartment development. In Celbridge itself we take on extensions, openings, surveys and certification for homeowners, and the drainage and flood questions a new building by the river is asked.
Kildare County Council is the planning authority and the building control authority, at Áras Chill Dara on Devoy Park in Naas, and commencement notices are lodged with it through the national Building Control Management System. Celbridge is in the Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District.
The Celbridge Local Area Plan 2017 to 2023 has lapsed, and nothing has replaced it yet. Applications in the town are decided under the Kildare County Development Plan 2023 to 2029, with the council still having regard to the old plan. The regional strategy names Celbridge a Self Sustaining Town in the Dublin Metropolitan Area.
The Liffey runs through the middle of the town, and the Office of Public Works. The state body that leads flood risk management in Ireland, and publishes the national flood maps on floodinfo.ie.'s flood study for the east of the country picked Celbridge out for detailed assessment along it. South of the town, Hazelhatch has had many significant floods in recent decades, and the council finished a study of it in 2019. The maps are on floodinfo.ie, and a site near either will be asked about flood risk at planning.
Most of Kildare is glacial till over limestone, a stiff clay that carries a foundation well and takes water slowly, with softer ground along the river. A soakaway is a test result rather than an assumption here, and near the Liffey the foundation design starts from what a site investigation finds.
Drawings, a specification, or the site address and the programme dates: whatever you have is enough to start. We come back inside two working days, and a written fee proposal against a defined scope follows within three working days of that.
