## Before you write

### What should I send with a first enquiry?

Where the building is, with its Eircode, what you want to do, and photographs. A photograph of the wall you want opened up or the crack you are worried about tells us more than a page of description, and from a phone the quickest way to send it is WhatsApp, to the office number. Send any drawings you have, even a sketch, and any report somebody has already written. If you have none of that, write anyway: we will tell you what is worth getting.

### How quickly will I hear back?

Inside two working days, and usually the same one if you write during office hours. A written fee proposal follows within three working days of that, because it is priced against your job rather than read off a list.

### Do you work outside Kildare?

We work anywhere in Ireland. The office is in Newbridge, so Kildare, Dublin and the rest of Leinster are the shortest trips and usually the quickest to get a visit booked, and we travel the whole country where the job calls for it. Precast design is drawn and checked on screen, so for that it makes no odds where the site is.

### Does the first call cost anything?

No. Working out whether you need an engineer at all, which of the two certifier roles you are actually being asked for, or that the job is too small to be worth a fee, is a phone call and it is free. Anything that takes a visit, a report or a design is priced in writing before we start.

### What are you qualified to sign?

Design certification under BCAR, and the Civil and Structural Ancillary Certificates that go with it. The practice is led by chartered engineers, members of Engineers Ireland, which is the qualification a building control authority and a lender are both looking for. Ask for the professional indemnity certificate with the fee proposal and it comes with it.

### Who will I be dealing with?

The engineer who does the work. The person you speak to is the person who designs the job and signs the certificate, from the first call through to handover.

### Can I call into the office?

Yes, during office hours, and you do not need an appointment. Ringing ahead means we can have the right engineer at the desk rather than out on a site. Bring whatever drawings or photographs you have with you.
