# Structural Engineers in Newbridge

> Structural, civil and precast engineering from our own office at Baroda Court, for homes, businesses and developments across Newbridge.

Newbridge is where the office is: 51 Baroda Court, W12 HR58. A site in the town is minutes away, and a meeting is across the desk from the engineer who will design the job and sign for it.

We take on extensions, openings in load bearing walls, surveys of houses for sale and Opinions on Compliance for homeowners in the town, and the drainage and connections a new house or a small development needs.

## What we do in Newbridge

### [Structural Calculations](https://www.petruf.ie/services/structural-engineering/structural-calculations)

Load bearing walls taken out, extensions and attic conversions, with a site visit and a fixed fee quoted first.

### [Surveys and Reports](https://www.petruf.ie/services/structural-engineering)

Pre purchase surveys, condition reports and crack and subsidence reports on houses in the town.

### [Building Regulations Compliance](https://www.petruf.ie/services/consulting-and-compliance/building-regulations-compliance)

Opinions on Compliance for a sale, and design and assigned certification under BCAR.

### [SuDS and Drainage Design](https://www.petruf.ie/services/civil-engineering/suds-design)

Soakaway tests on site, and surface water designed to the council's SuDS policy.

### [Flood Risk Assessments](https://www.petruf.ie/services/civil-engineering/flood-risk-assessments)

For sites on the flood maps, by the river or near it, before the design is fixed.

## Planning and building control

[Kildare County Council](https://kildarecoco.ie/) is the planning authority and the building control authority, at Áras Chill Dara on Devoy Park in Naas, and commencement notices are lodged with it through the national [Building Control Management System](https://www.localgov.ie/en/bcms). Newbridge is in the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District.

Since February 2026 the town has been planned under the [Newbridge Settlement Plan](https://kildarecoco.ie/AllServices/Planning/DevelopmentPlans/KildareCountyDevelopmentPlan2023-2029/Variation2NewbridgeSettlementPlan/), made as a variation of the Kildare County Development Plan 2023 to 2029. It replaced the old local area plan, so an application in the town is now read against the county plan and the settlement plan together.

## The Liffey

The Liffey runs through the middle of the town, and the OPW's flood study for the east of the country picked Newbridge out for detailed assessment along it. The maps are on [floodinfo.ie](https://www.floodinfo.ie/), and the council has already carried out flood works at Dara Park and The Oaks. A site by the river will be asked about flood risk at planning, and the answer is cheaper before the design is fixed than after.

## The ground

The Curragh, at the edge of the town, sits on one of the largest sand and gravel deposits in the country, up to sixty metres deep at its centre, which drains well and usually takes a soakaway. Within the town the ground varies from one estate to the next, so a percolation test on the site, rather than the reputation of the area, decides what the drainage can be.

## Questions from the town

### Can I meet the engineer at the office in Newbridge?

Yes. The office is at 51 Baroda Court, open Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 18:00. Call first, so the engineer who will take on your job is there, and bring whatever drawings and photographs you have.

### Will a soakaway work on my site in Newbridge?

On the sand and gravel round the Curragh it often does, but it is a test result rather than an assumption. A percolation test on the site, to BRE 365, shows how fast the ground takes water, and the soakaway is sized from it. On clay the answer may be attenuation and a controlled outfall instead.

### Which plan applies to a planning application in Newbridge?

The Kildare County Development Plan 2023 to 2029, and the Newbridge Settlement Plan made as a variation of it in February 2026, which replaced the old local area plan. Check the council's site for the current version before relying on either.
